Choreography
Michael Walline, Thursday, December 9th, 2010
Wilson- thanks for your comment on the choreography. The objective for the choreography was to create a new dance language for this production of Cabaret instead of using one that is already known. I did not want to use the Fosse vocabulary- rather, I wanted to utilize other influences of the time … more period- Josephine Baker, social dances of the time, german traditional dance (The Holzhacker and the Schuplattler, specifically) and symbolism of secret societies, just to name a few. The amalgamation of all of those, as well as my own dance vocabulary, is what was used. And I am also happy that you know the work of Lady Gaga, whose own choreographic influences are similar to that of what I used in Cabaret. It's great that you are such a fan of Bob Fosse (as am I!), however- his choreography is iconic and if not done correctly would come across as an unfortunate copy. Also, his work was for the movie, and the original choreography for the stage was done by Ron Field. Thanks again!
Frustrating!
Wilson, Tuesday, December 7th, 2010
What was the choreographer thinking when he/she decided to not use the original and famous choreography for the play by the talented Bob Fosse??!! Instead, the show is an adaptation using some mix of modern choreography. It seems that the only character missing for this adaptation was Lady Gaga, on … more the role of Sally Bowles. What a disappointment!
Cabaret - no curtain call
Sharon, Friday, November 12th, 2010
We found your 11 10 performance of Cabaret both compelling and chilling and felt that the no-curtain-call ending was unusual but most appropriate. We always attend the talk back and want you to know that we think the audience's unusual silence during a usually spirited talk back exchange was due … more to the content of the musical, not the performance. What a wonderful evening as always! Thanks...
GREAT

What a terrific show. I loved all aspects of it. I had forgotten some parts since first seeing Cabaret 20+ years ago. The subtleties of the choreography, plus the thousand-yard stare of the Kit Kat Girls was superb.I was a bit concerned after the show. The house lights came up but noone … more appeared on stage for several minutes, even though the audience gave two ovations. There was supposed to be an opportunity to meet the cast. When noone appeared on stage, we went to the lobby expecting to find the cast there. But that was not to be. We were a bit disappointed that we didn't have a chance to thank the cast for their fine efforts.

What a show! John Fredo and Kelly Jakiel are wonderful. The ending stayed with me even after I left the theatre. I would highly recommend it.
