SWEENEY TODD.....
Mary Beth Willard, Monday, December 31st, 2007
I saw the revival on Broadway. It was good but not as good as the original production. The fully realized score for this show is beautiful. The scaled down instrumentation of the revival didn't make it sound as rich as this show desereves. Either way I'm looking forward to it. I get a kick out … more of(although it's a little morbid)watching the victims go down the shoot during such a beautiful number in the show. I think it's the polar opposite of the gruesomeness against what the score suggests that makes this show work for me. Can't wait
Which verison of SWEENEY is this?
Randall Kramer, Director, Monday, December 31st, 2007
Our version is a bit of a hybrid of the original and the recent revival, leaning more to the recent revival. The actors do not play instruments throughout (there is some percussion played by the cast), two onstage grand pianos provide the accompaniment, and the setting is simpler than the … more original, but fully designed, with various layers of white fabric covering a significant portion of the stage. This is not an attempt to replicate any previous production. My hope is that it is another interesting interpretation of this masterpiece, one that has been conceived specifically for our 136 seat theatre.
Which version

is this the fully staged version with orchestra or is it like the 2005 Broadway revival ie stripped down staging and music played by the cast?
