tick, tick...boom!

What others had to say*

Tick Tick BOOM!

Congratulations, Randy and the cast. The show last night was knocked out the park (to use a baseball analogy!). Everything was exquisite- the direction, acting, choreography, music... was pretty close to perfect. And that was opening night??? It looked like it had been going on for months andmore months. You should be proud of this production. I'll tell 30 or 40 of my closest friends to see this (as per Randy)- people NEED to see this type of show and this talent.

So you all know RENT, that portrait of insufferable New York types kvetching about everything in the world, with the song that will not go away about 536 thousand, etc. etc. minutes. Well, it is not one of my favorite shows - maybe because there were so many people in it, you could not commiseratemore with just one. Well, Jonathan Larson, who wrote RENT and then, with little forethought, died just before it opened on Broadway, also wrote a much smaller, and to my mind, better show: TICK, TICK...BOOM! This show has real heart to it and a central hero with one yearning. Once again, of course, we are back in the 90's. Well, how could we not be? Who did not have a lot of questions about themselves, the world, and everything else? But Randy Kramer is a genius at staging these shows, and casting them. A simple set by Chris Schenk that miraculously puts you right in the heart of SOHO and keeps you riveted; a great central hero star in the persona of Lou Colaiacovo; talented backup pal (and other guys) in Marc Sacco; and at various times, a lovely, loving, woman; a screwball agent; a sparkling ingenue, in Michele Marie Roberts. These three singers and dancers knock themselves out entertaining you and keeping your attention nailed to the stage. AND THEY ARE WONDERFUL!!!! SINGLY AND TOGETHER. I LOVED YOU GUYS!!! Live music of course: the ubiquitous Michael Hake conducting from his keyboard; Ric Stave on bass; Mark Partyka on guitar; and Jeff Cooke on percussion. That whirlwind of an entertainer, Kathy Weese, handled the choreography here, so you know it's going to be great; lighting and sound by (say it with me...) Chris Cavanagh; costumes by Olivia Ebsary. I could babble on and on about how much I loved this show, but my best use of words would be to urge you to go and see it. I cannot think of anyone so far gone in this world who will not love it.

Saw TICK, TICK...BOOM! at a preview Sunday night. What a fun show. Great music, interesting contemporary characters, and the actors were outstanding. It's not your "typical" musical although I think the kind of people who like "typical" musicals would also like this show. There's reallymore something for everybody. I highly recommend it.

This is a GREAT SHOW! Wonderful music, very funny and at times emotional. I'm so glad MusicalFare decided to do it!
